Blog #3 - Pick a question

Sorry this is late: DUE FRIDAY 10/3/08

Pick one of the following questions and answer it with a minimum of 150 words:

1. Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship? Why or why not?

2. Should America make English its official language? How about English and Spanish? Think about the consequences for the country and compare it to Canada. For either question, why or why not?

3. Is it important that America maintain the wall along its Mexican border? Or do you think the wall is unfair and a symbol of oppression? Think about the issues brought up in the TIME article (crime, health care, national security, etc.) and tell us what you think.

Thanks.

I chose quote number 1. Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship? Why or why not? I think that the 12 million illegal immigrants should get a chance at citizenship. I think they should get a chance at legal citizenship because if you put yourself in their shoes, you would understand more. Where the foreigners live, it's more strict and not as free as the United States. If we were illegal immigrants, we would definitely want to be excepted to. I think by them learning English, they would all understand us more and be able to communicate with all of us. That could benefit them. By paying fines from being an illegal immigrant, they could learn their lesson not to invade any other countries, and pay off their debts to society. Working towards citizenship could show or help them express how much they would like to be an american citizen. Also helping them grow into a better person. That's why I think that illegal immigrants should get a chance toward american citizenship.

A very heated topic this week has been the wall that seperates America and Mexico. In my opinion I believe that the wall should be up becuase not having it up would cuase great harm to an already hurting U.S economy and government. Problems that are included with having immigrants coming in are very vital. An example is that Mexicans are used to cheap labor and are taking American jobs from American citizens and workers that are out of work. Another big problem is that it is affecting the education in the country as well because illegal aleins aren't paying taxes and using materials that Americans are paying for from thier wages. Lastly, another big reason to prevent immigrants from easy entrance is that over population and trash could get out of hand in a few years if the population rises dramtically. These are few reasons that we should enforce the wall and keep boundry officers put and wall controlled. It is in the U.S best interest to do so.

Number One.
I think that the illegal immigrants should get a chance to become citizens of the U.S. I personally hate michigan, and I don't understand why someone would want to live here. But if people are willing to climb a 10ft wall, rick their lives and the lives of others just to be an American citizen, then why not let them try? I have about four friends who aren't from the U.S. and I can't imagine how my life would be without them. If they hadn't of got their green cards and stayed here my life would be so different and by not letting these people try to become U.S. citizens we are taking away their chance to become something wonderful. The article said the ten people who go caught crossing were planning on finding jobs once they reached America, since people are already planning on looking for work it would jut make more sense to give them a chance, and let them become proper citizens.

so im answering number 3.

- i think that we shouldnt keep the wall in operation because it is a symbol of oppression which is not what our country is based on. also if we didnt have a wall then the country wouldnt be thought of as the forbidden fruit and maybe less people would want to come over. but the people that came over would have to become citizens but it would be based on the honor system and that would make america less scary for new immigrants so that they could live thier lives in peace.

Number 1.
Besides jobs, the illegal immigrants do not affect the everyday American. I think that the 12 million illegal immigrants should get the chance to become a citizen by learning English, paying fines, and working hard. It is constitutional that every human being is treated equally no matter what race religion or culture. Denying their right to work for citizenship is technically not following the basic principles of the constitution; although many Americans do not see it this way. As of now, I do not have much of a problem with illegal immigrants moving to America in search of a better life. Of course I am only a kid and from the adult perspective I’m sure their rationale is different. I think that these immigrants should be allowed in, only if they work as hard if not harder than the American born people. When the numbers of them become too many, and the American people begin to be noticeably discouraged, then the amount of them coming in could be limited by the government.

1. Q. Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship? Why or why not?

A:
I think that the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship because if they’re going to live in our country then they should have to go through everything we have to as American-born citizens. For example, us everyday Americans, we have to live and work and pay everyday to live in our houses and pay taxes and pay bills; therefore, immigrants should have to do the same thing if they’re going to live here. I think that the immigrants should also learn English because that is the most popular language in America. The percentage of languages spoken in America is: English ≈ 82%, Other ≈ 18% (Spanish ≈ 10.7%, Other Indo-European Languages ≈ 3.8%, Asian and Pacific Island Languages ≈ 2.7%, Unknown ≈ 0.7%) Even though many American-born citizens have to learn other languages besides English to communicate to world-wide businesses and people, immigrants should learn English so they can communicate with us.

I think the 12 million illegal immgrants should get a chance to get citizenship because there working as hard as Americans and getting no benifits or getting paid mininum wage. there is also some bad things allowering them to get citizenship because some of them might be terrorist. The illegal immigrants that been here trying to get money for there families but there not going to get citizenship. many illegal immingrants do learn engish in a timily matter and many american born citizens learn a different langauge other then english. Also illegal immgrants also help us in everday things that we do not want to do. there not hurting us but there helping us in many ways.

Answer for Question # 2

America, has long been considered the land of opportunity. People from all around have turned to America in hopes of breaking away from a troubled home land. From issues like a corrupt government, to an economical struggle. The freedom America offers is key to why it’s a “melting pot” country. Enforcing a national language defeats this purpose. With one language, we loose the rich cultural variety in our society. America like I stated earlier is many cultures and backgrounds mixed together . By forcing a common language, we just become another country. This is why I feel we should keep our dialect standards the same as they are now. Having no specified language also gives people a chance at a job translating people who haven’t transferred over to English. No matter what, foreign speaking individuals will have to learn English any way , in order to go about their daily commute.

Anonymous said...

I think the United States should make English their official language. English is the most used language in the United States. It is the primary language on all of our products. It is also the only language that is mandatory in schools for all ages. I do not think it should be a combination of English and Spanish. Even though English would be the official language, other languages could be used or spoken. Spanish could still be involved in the lives of Americans who speak it primarily at home. By making English the official language, it would not restrict people from reading, writing, or speaking other languages. Most people are forced to learn English just because they need to be able to converse with fellow Americans. This is not mandatory. The consequences for the country would be minimal. While it might offend a few cultural groups, it would actually help to unify the country with one official common language.

I picked Question 2.I think that America shouldn't make it's official language English because that's not showing a good part on America. The people that speak different languages wll have a fit. They will have to learn a different language. But you can't take something from anyone that already learned something for years and years ago. It's not right at all. The world is going to be a mess because the people aren't going to be doing what they are told to do. But if the people have to learn English and Spanish then i think that it will be okay. Most people speak in those two languages anyways. But how about the other languages? See the English speakers and the Spanish speakers are okay but someone that doesn't speak either will have a problem. I think that violence will occur during the process of making Engish or English and Spanish the main languages. The consequences for the country compared to Cananda will be that everyone will go over to Canada and not come to America because of the language issue.

3. Is it important that America maintain the wall along its Mexican border? Or do you think the wall is unfair and a symbol of oppression? Think about the issues brought up in the TIME article (crime, health care, national security, etc.) and tell us what you think.

I think that America should keep the wall along the Mexican border, because the wall is a sign that we are trying to keep immigrants out of United States. If we took the wall down then the quantity of illegal immigrants passing through would increase. Even though some immigrants are still illegally passing through the Mexican border in to the U.S the wall is still lowering the amount. A new line in the sand article says that immigrants cause many problems in America. One is that illegal immigrants are taking jobs away form American citizens, and driving down wages because they are willing to work for less money. I agree with this issue because in Mexico they make way less money then we do in America. I do not think it would be fair to let Mexicans come to America, because they are a drain on are resources and we can not handle the amount that want to come.

No the legal immigrant should not be able to work toward a citizenship and they don’t need to learn English. If you let them to pay fines that they need to pay. You have to see how long they have been here for, so they can pay taxes and what we have to pay. If they really wanted to come to America then they should come like another immigrant. They should take the test and see if they know enough to come and if they don’t back to Mexico. I you see the food that is contaminated it is from the farms with legal immigrant. They can work toward there citizenship in Mexico or were ever you are from. That is my point and another point is they are running the economy by not paying taxes and lowering salary. My other people might think different but they are taking over our jobs.

Question # 1

I believe that the 12 million illegal immigrants should not be able to get a chance at citizenship even if they learn English, pay fines and work toward citizenship. I believe that they shouldn’t be able to because they initially crossed over illegally and I don’t think that is fair towards other immigrants who did it legally. The illegal immigrants should be sent back to Mexico and reapply after two years back in Mexico. So that any other immigrants don’t get any ideas of doing something illegal, and to just do it the right way. I think this would lower the population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. in some ways, but any way you look at it there will always be illegal immigrants trying to break the laws. That is why I don’t believe that illegal immigrants should be able to apply for U.S. citizenship, until they pay there time.

Q: Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship? Why or why not?
A: I think the 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines, and work towards citizenship. They should because if they want to live here than they should get a chance. Since most of the country speaks English then the immigrants should have to seek English so they can communicate to get a job. But if they really don’t do anything then they should not be here or get some money and go to school or learn to speak English and learn about history. Like us, we have to pay bills and taxes on thing so if they want to live here then they should have to pay bills and pay taxes on things.

I think it is important because it would create conflict between the Americans and the immigrants. The immigrants are taking American jobs and are putting people out of jobs. It affects the country by the immigrants not paying their taxes. I think the wall should be put up for security issues and to create fewer arguments and less conflict. If they want to risk their lives for a better one in American then that’s their choice

Question 1

There have been more than 12 million illegal immigrants living in our borders for many, many years now. I think that if the government let these people earn citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work until they achieve their goal by becoming legal Americans, it would result in problems for the already legal people here. One problem is the over population that seems to be occurring in the United States. When our country becomes too crowded, that means that many people would be out on the street because of the lack of jobs. Also, if other illegal immigrants know that we let these 12 million people allowed into our country with a citizenship by doing a few things, I think it would encourage more people to try to come here as well. If this were to happens, the more and more crowded it would become and more people would be here than jobs we have. If the 12 million were let in, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it would stop other illegal immigrants from trying to get into our country. By allowing these people in, the government wouldn’t be stopping our illegal immigrant problem whatsoever, but possibly causing it to erupt into something bigger.

Question 3:
The wall among the Mexican Border is an expensive project that has cut down illegal immigration from hundreds to just one or two at certain points every day. The wall symbolizes that America is prepared to go the whole nine yards in order to keep illegal immigrants out. Our economy has possibly been impacted by the poor immigrants coming over and looking for any type of work because they don’t care so much about how the area they live in looks as long as they have work. The wall would only be considered unfair in my opinion if the Mexican immigrants did not endlessly try to cross the border. The wall was necessary because poor immigrants may become desperate and turn towards crime for money. The aliens who do not have healthcare raise the premiums for the citizens who do if the aliens need to go to the hospital and also some citizens might not feel as safe with illegal immigrants who cannot speak English working with or living by them. This may be recognized as some modern form of nativism.

I do not think that the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines work towards citizenship. I think this because of many reasons. If they do give illegal immigrants a chance that could cause more and more immigrants to try to cross the border and it would but 12 million but could double or triple. I think this puts the true American citizens in jeopardy to get jobs, kids to get into school, and it could crowed certain areas of the country. I think that if we do give all of these immigrants a chance it would cause problems and some people would disagree with this, which could cause an outrage. This would take away from many people who work hard and are born citizens from being noticed. If the immigrants want to become citizens the legal way and move their family here for a reason of change of job and other important reasons then people would understand better. There are already enough illegal immigrants in our country, which is not fair, and I think that if we do allow them to do this it would cause more problems then we need to deal with.

I chose the first question:”Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship? Why or why not?”
I think immigrants in the united states should get a chance to become american citizens, only if they learn English, pay fines, taxes and work towards the american citizenship. I think that immigrants should have a chance just like every one because america is considered a free country, and anyone should be able to live in a free country legally. I think that if immigrants are willing to spend time and effort to become American citizens then they should be given the opportunity. And if they secede on the test and pay the taxes, live by the rules and don’t make any infractions to the law they should be able to live in America as American citizens.

Anonymous said...

Question 2

I think that we should have English as our main language in the United States. I think that this should be our only official language. I think this because the majority of the people who live in America speak English. This makes communication much more efficient if everyone understands each other. If there are immigrants who don’t know English, then they would be more inclined to learn it if it’s the only official language, because they would be able to communicate with everyone else in the country much easier. This would also make day to day life a lot simpler. The consequences of this making English the only official language of the United States could be that immigrants who speak other languages such as Spanish or French might not want to immigrate here because they know that their language may not be accepted and it could also give America a bad reputation among other countries nationwide.

#2- should America use English as its official language?
YES! I think it is stupid if it isn’t. It would also be dumb to have 2 official languages. Almost everyone in America speaks English. Even though many people are starting to speak Spanish, it is still a fairly small percentage. It is also only in the southern, and southwestern states. In Canada, there are 2 official languages- English and French. Canada was originally settled by the French. Today, only 1 province is fully bilingual (New Brunswick) and 1 is unilingual (In Quebec, they only speak French). Other than that, the other provinces are almost all English speaking. In these cities, many people find it annoying that everything has to be in French. My family in Canada think that it is dumb to pay extra so that everything is bilingual. Now imagine that in the U.S. Every sign and other document would have to be in English and Spanish, probably even in places with virtually no Spanish speaking population. This is why I think that America should use English as its official language.

I think that the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants should follow those rules. I feel this way because it will give those immigrants a fair chance once they have passed all those procedures. I think that everyone in this country should of had to go through the same kinds of things as everyone else in the country. Unless you were born and raised here in this country like a lot of the people. People that come from other countries legally have citizenship there, so in order to get legal citizenship here they should have to learn everything about this country. I think that if everyone followed this law if they were illegal immigrants coming in the Unites States that its the most fair way and everyone will agree on it.

I think that the 12 million illegal immigrants should have a chance at citizenship if they work for it. If they learn English and pay fins just like any other citizen does then I think it is fair if they can have the same thing we have. I do not think that they affect the everyday American life therefore there is no reason their race or culture should change how they work for their citizenship. And if they work hard enough to learn English and can speak it without a problem then they would be able to get a job and contribute. And if they are willing to work this hard to come over the fence just to start a new life in the U.S then I think they should have a equal chance to live in the U.S. So if they are willing to work this hard and learn English and work for their freedom in the U.S, they should be able to be a citizen.

I do not think that the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should get a chance at citizenship at all. In fact, I think that all the illegal immigrants should be deported back to the country that they came from. The illegal immigrants are coming to the U.S because the working and living conditions in their own country are very poor and they are looking for a better life. Instead of them coming here, I think that the U.S. should just work to make their countries better places to live. For example, the Mexican immigrants. The Mexicans are coming to America because of their poor lives in Mexico. Instead of letting them come to the U.S. and take over jobs and whatnot, we should work to make their country a better place so that they won’t have the need to immigrate here. Fixing the problems in their country would be beneficial for not only the U.S., but also for the immigrants.

I think that the illegal immigrants that come into the United States should certainly be allowed to become full United States citizens, on some conditions. I think that if we didn’t allow these immigrants to become citizens, they might result in criminals, and lowlifes. However, I do think that there are some things immigrants shouldn’t have to do if they want citizenship. That is that they shouldn’t have to pay fines; this is because they aren’t doing anything wrong, they aren’t committing any crimes, and they already don’t have enough money for themselves. I do think that it’s a good idea to provide these immigrants with a citizenship test, but not one like those who came through Ellis Island took. This one would have a literacy test, a criminal record test, and a drug test. This would prevent unruly citizens from making up the future of the United States.

I choose number 1 about illegal immigrants, and I think illegal immigrants should get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and word towards citizenship because they worked so hard to get here why not let them stay and get a better job, etc. They should allow the people already here get a chance at citizenship that are illegal immigrants and keep building the border so other people wont get in. I can see why we should send the illegal immigrants. They are taking our jobs and working for less money. I think it would be wrong to send all of the 12 million people back when they risked so much just to be here and get better jobs and a better life.

Question #1
I think that the 12 million illegal immigrants should get a chance to become a legal U.S. citizen. Most of them want to try having a better life and get out of poverty and make money in America. All of our ancestors came from different countries and made this land are home. So why not let other people come to America and try to live the American dream. Although I think that these immigrants need to learn English and pay fines and work hard to become a U.S. citizen. I think it is very important that they learn the English language properly and have to work hard to get jobs. But I also think that if immigrants fail to do these things they should not be allowed to come to the United States because it is unfair to those people who do work hard and know the language lose jobs to those people who don’t. I am for people coming to America but they have to pass a test or something.

I will be answering question one. "Land of the free, and the home of the brave". to me, this quote seems to be a some-what of a lie. if this was the land of the free, wouldn't anyone and everyone on this earth be allowed in? i think that the immigrants, legal or illegal should have a chance at citizenship. as i've shown you before, the Mexica Movement, we think that the mexican immigrants have a right to be in U.S.A because before white man came to the country and drew the borders, we were all the same group of people. they are only taking back what belonged to them. how ever: i do believe that learning English is an important part of living in the USA because it is our primary language. i dont think illigal immigration is necessarily a good thing, but i personally have nothing against it. I do not think its a good idea to make someone WORK for citizenship, because the government, or who ever is in charge would like to maybe play around with people, working them as if they were draft horses with a heart full of hope, led on by empty promises. i think the test, and a physical will do just fine.

I think that the wall along the Mexican border is both fair and unfair. It's fair because it helps prevent more illegal immigrants traveling over to the U.S. It's unfair because I don't think that we should ban people out of our country. America is supposed to be a free country and by blocking Mexican's out, its telling them that they cannot be apart of the free country. People should be allowed to come here on specific conditions. Such as speaking fluent English and have a good clean record. By setting these conditions, it can help make the immigration process better, so we have better people in America. I still think that immigrants need to pass through immigration in order to live in America, but building a border won't necessarily guarantee that it will stop immigrants from coming over here. By building a border you are also looking at higher taxes, which many people are not happy about. I think that we just need harder conditions for immigrants.

America should not make English its official language because of the growing number of immigrants that are entering the U.S. every day, making this country that much more diverse than it already is. While immigrants can be legal, it is sad to see that many are in fact illegal. The words “illegal immigrants” are immediately tied to the Hispanic (mostly), and Arabic (not as much) races and that is just completely untrue, and racist to an extent. There are people of all types of nationalities that enter the U.S illegally every day, month, or year. The Spanish speaking population does continue to grow, which means that eventually many businesses may be run by Spanish only speaking people. This might then force Americans to learn Spanish as a mandatory second language in order to communicate better with people within the same country because the ratio of Spanish-Americans has come so close. While changing the U.S. official language to English and Spanish is a good idea for both language speakers, it will hurt the country as a whole in the long run. Taking Canada for example, their road, rest stops, fast foods, hotels, etc. are all written in two languages; French, and English. So how does this compare to the U.S. changing to a two official language system? Well imaging the government having to take down every road, rest stop, restaurant, hotel, instruction manual, TV. Guide, home products, TV. Subtitles etc. signs and adding Spanish translations to all. This would not only cost in hundreds of millions of dollars, but also with the current economic slump, it would put the U.S. in a greater debt than it already has itself in. Overall I do not see the U.S. establishing English as its Official language; neither do I see them having Two Official languages. However it is one of those things that exist and do not need to be said or written in order to understand which language the country prefers to have spoken as its Unofficial Official language.

Yes I believe that everyone should get a chance to receive an American citizenship. Even the illegal immigrants from Mexico. If someone is willing to work hard and pay the money and learn the American language they should definitely earn what they have worked so hard to achieve. 46
Most people who live here are born with an American citizenship. I was born in France and I have a dual citizenship because my mother is American. Not many people realize how hard it is to get a green card or a citizenship. It’s a lot of paper work and it takes almost a year. And if your house is being taken away and your family is poor and there’s not enough money to put food on the table. Families don’t have time to wait a year for the government’s paperwork. They just walk the border, and hope the new live they have will be better! 124
So basically I’m trying to say that the people who coming here looking for the American dream should be able to get their citizenship. Why shouldn’t they? They have every right to freedom and equality than I do!

I fell that 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship. By learning English will help them achieve more. The whole reason of coming to America is to better there life. There not making that much money in Mexico like they are in America. They are here in our country illegally so they should get the chance at citizenship. Learning English is the main key or obstacle they would be faced with and working towards citizenship. Even by coming here there still are problems in finding jobs. Everybody should be treated equally. They should have to do the same things every other Americans have to do such as paying taxes voting est. There coming over illegally anyway so what’s the harm in letting them become citizens. I just say they have to take a standardized test before they are citizens.

I chose question number one for my blog because I think that it is the most important, and the most disputed. The estimated twelve million immigrants should be accepted and have to pay taxes. And I am not being stereo typical, but look what illegal immigrants have done for us. Many illegal immigrants have landscaping companies, do yard work, or mow lawns. I am not saying that all landscapers, yard workers, and lawn mowers are all illegal immigrants, I am just saying that the majority of them are. And that is perfectly fine also. Again, I am not trying to be stereo typical. If no one is their to do these jobs, what would happen? Their would be less jobs, and more people out of work. Most illegal immigrants become choose these jobs because a green card is not required for such a job. I don’t think that illegal immigrants jumping the border is such a big deal unless they are criminals, drug lords or drug dealers, or smuggling weapons or guns into the United States. Most illegal immigrants are just normal people just trying to get away from the hardships and poverty that some parts of mexico provides.- Nate Zakaria

Yes I think that the 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should earn English and pay fines and then work toward getting citizenship because this is not there country it is ours. So if they want to get in they should be willing to do whatever they can to get in our country at that become a citizen. It is not just being mean most people from different countries have to something if it is getting a green card or writing a lot of papers to become a citizen. So if everyone from a different country should have to do something to get in so should they, and it is being nice they we would even think about given them a chance to become an American citizen. Plus if we did not do this the people that went thought a lot of stuff similar to that might get mad if we just let people get in to America without confronting them, and I don’t know but might even leave the country and if all people from different country thought like that we would lose tons and tons of money.

If English were to be America’s official language, how would we still be able to call ourselves the melting pot? It would be extremely hypocritical to make either English and/or Spanish the official language, especially since we have a border up to keep Mexicans out. The whole American dream is to be able to come to a country that accepts differences. A country where, even if nativism is a problem, there are still areas where you can speak your language with people just like you. Even if English were to be America’s official language, it wouldn’t stop people from speaking their own. People are going to do what they want regardless, especially people who may not know English. Also, since the economy is so bad, people are very busy working and making money just to get buy. Going to school to learn a whole new language is not possible for many peoples’ schedules.

Russell Balow, third hour.

question:Should America make English its official language? How about English and Spanish? Think about the consequences for the country and compare it to Canada. For either question, why or why not?

answer: America is not a country that established its own language, we don’t speak American, we speak English, and we were not the only ones to take parts of America early on, the Spanish, French and others also left influence on what is modern America. Let us not also forget that the native Americans should be considered the real natives, but they don’t have a unified language either, so it seems appropriate that we allow those who will continue to immigrate to feel unpressured to have to learn another language. Perhaps we should adopt a system similar to that in Canada, which incorporates the two most commonly spoken languages, and labels all items with these languages. Or maybe we should just reintroduce Esperanto, and make the whole world learn that (no, in fact we should not). Case in point, the national language issue is a soft spoken one to be sure, which makes sense because its fine the way it is. We have no national language, so why is there a national language issue? think about that.

The 12 million illegal immigrants in the country should be allowed to gain citizenship by learning English, paying fines and working towards citizenship. One reason for this is that the illegal immigrants are already in the United States and do not pay taxes; by allowing them to become citizens the government will not only gain money from the fines they will have to pay, but also yearly as income taxes. With the enormous number of immigrants currently residing in the U.S., even if only a small amount did this it would still make huge profits for the government. Another reason is that the majority of the jobs the illegal immigrants take are ones most Americans would not take. Some jobs the immigrants take are jobs as house cleaners and factory workers. If they learned English then they would be able to run their own businesses and contribute to the economy by making more purchases because they will be making more money.

I did question 3.
I think it is very important for America to maintain the wall on the Mexican border. I do not think it is a symbol of oppression. I think we need it or else the country will be letting people in and it is illegal to come in without permission. I think we give people in Mexico a lot of opportunities to become citizens if they really wanted to, but to live in America then they should have to work for it by doing all the things needed to become a citizen just like everyone else. I think that the wall is just making sure that people do not do something that is already illegal. There is no reason that it shouldn’t be enforced. If all these people are let in, then the United States, which is already crowded, will become way too crowded to be a good place to live and we want to keep the United States at it’s best.

The illegal 12 million immigrants should get a shot at citizenship. If they don’t get a shot at it all we’re going to do when we catch them anyways is throw them in jail then send them back home where they can keep trying to get back in. There should have to pay fines and everything but I think they should get to learn English and take the tests to become a citizen. If they don’t then the only people were really hurting anyways is ourselves because all they’ll get is a slap on the wrist and get sent home.

I think that the U.S. Government should let the immigrants come into the country and earn their spot in society. I they learn English, pay taxes and work as hard as others then they would be just like normal Americans. In the constitution they said that everybody should be treated equally. If you treat the differently then you would be doing the un-American thing. Also if they come into the country and work towards the citizenship and not just getting it the easy way by marrying somebody then I think that they would be legitimate. While other people think that they are just invading our country I think we would be do the right thing by welcoming into our country.

I picked question number one. I think illegal immigrants should be given a chance to become citizens. They have gone through a lot to get to the country already. They could learn the most used language of the United States, which is English. This will help them learn the rules of our country better so they can become a citizen. I don’t think they should have to pay fines because they probably don’t have enough money. If they come from a foreign country, the reason why they left was probably because they were poor. Knowing how cruel America is, they would probably charge a lot of money for the fines. The immigrants didn’t do anything wrong to have to pay the fines. They should also work for their citizenship. They should have to go through all the processes that anyone else has to. They should also get all the rights that come with it such as voting or becoming president someday.

I picked quote number two because i think every one should have a chance at American citizenship even the estimated 12 million immigrants in the u.s now.Even though i think learning english paying finds is a good way to become an American citizen.I think the punishment shoould depened on how long they have been in the united states illegally. The longer
they have been hiding out the more they should have to do and pay. If i was an illegal immigrant i would want to be excepted as a citizen.Being a citizen of the united states is one of the best things ever so every one should be able to experience it.

I chose number one. I think that the illegal immigrants in the United States should get a chance at citizenship. There would not only be benefits for them, but also for the rest of the population. There would be a bigger demand for ESL teachers and people who help them to start their legal life in the U.S.
I am an immigrant, too. Not illegal, but I still am new in this country. I am just staying for 2 years, because my dad works with one Auto Company, but I can feel like those others who come here and don’t know all the American customs and everyday life. I think it is important to help those people to find their own way in society, because they would also contribute a lot to the American society. There are many highly educated immigrants who work in a different field, because they are not allowed to work in the U.S. My Indian friend’s mom is a doctor and my mom is a physical therapist. Both are not allowed to work in their field here. I think if there would be certain laws made for those kind of people they could help others again. In my opinion it’s the most important part to help the immigrant kids in school. They should not lose their traditions and customs, but they should learn how to deal with the whole American situation. Out of experience I can say, that it takes a lot to get used to everything here. At the beginning you judge everything. Everything is bad and not good. But after a while you just see the difference without judging. You accept the new environment. So I think, it is important to help immigrants, because they come to the U.S. for a reason. They chose to come here. They want a better life and are much more willing to work as maybe other Americans. We should (or maybe more specific said) they should give us a chance.

I think that it is very important that the United States maintain the construction of the wall along the Mexican Border. As you already know, tons of illegal immigrants are hoping the fence that boarders Mexico. Since some come over with almost nothing, they’re desperate in search of work, there for will be hired for whatever they can get. Then, since the people who hire them are already breaking rules by hiring them in the first place, they won’t be scared to break the rules again and pay them under the minimum wage. How unfair is that for the people who are legal citizens? Also, in class we’ve talked about the Central American gangs that have arisen, and the drug smuggling between countries, that’s obviously not good for the country. Citizens are being taxed like crazy for the over crowding at public schools. Since there are so many new students, taxes must be raised to pay for all the extra costs.

Yes I think it is important that we maintain the wall along the Mexican border because first if we don’t continue the wall it will be a waste of money. I also think it is important to continue the wall because it decreases the amount of illegal immigrants that come to America every day. I don’t think it is unfair because the Mexican’s that cross illegally are too lazy to register and become an American cetacean. The wall is also good for slowing down the drug traffic that gets transported into the United States. Also when illegal immigrants go to the hospital they don’t have any health care so if you have to go to the hospital for an emergency and the rooms are filled, some with illegal immigrants without health care you might die because you have to wait. That’s why I think it is important that we keep building the wall along our border. Alex - 2nd hr.

I don’t think that the 12 million illegal immigrants should be able to just get their citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards it. I think that they should all be deported and then if they want, can try to enter the country through the legal ways. If we don’t it would be like telling a man who has committed murder (which is against the law) that he can be excused or have another chance if he pays the family and learns how wrong what he did is. If we let them just do this it would be forgetting about the law that they broke in the first place. Also we send them out and they try to get back in the legal way we can regulate how many people get in and therefore lower the population of the United States which would open up many jobs for people around the country.

1. Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines and work towards citizenship? Why or why not?

I think that illegal immigrants should be able to obtain citizenship in the U.S. By working and earning their citizenship, they should be able to live wherever they want. I feel like most all born in America have had a very easy life as far as being provided with basic necessities, something many people young and old take for granted. There is a reason why immigrants want to come to America, and although putting up the Mexican border has helped stop drug trafficking and weapons, not all “illegal aliens” come to the U.S. for that reason. It’s easy for an American-born citizen to reject the idea, but I don’t think its fair to put every immigrant into the same category because of those who bring illegal drugs and weapons into the country. To me what these families will do to come to America shows how desperate they are. The problem isn’t people coming to the US, it’s the people who don’t understand what life is like for others outside of the US. I don’t know what other options there are besides keeping the border up or taking it down, but in my opinion I don’t know why immigrants shouldn’t be able to live in the us if they work towards their citizenship.

I choose question number 3.
I think it is important that the United States of America maintains those walls on the Southeren boarder for many reasons. One reason it that they bring all wages down everytime a person comes through and gets a low paying job that under minimum wage and by the time people my age and below will be getting jobs the wages will all be lower then possibly what we expected. A second reason they shoudl maintain the Southern Boarder with walls is a matter of saftey of United States citizens. If a person is a terorist and easyily passes through unmaintain boarder then we have no way of stopping him or her. A third reason is crime in general. If they can not get a job in the United Sates then they might turn to crime in small town along the Southern area of the Unites States.

Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship by learning English, paying fines, and work towards citizenship? My answer without a doubt is yes. Why not let them earn {EARN letting it be the key word} their citizenship. America itself, the U.S.A was made up of all immigrants why out of nowhere would you want to you want to put restrictions on what was once the bedrock of America? That is not really being an American, you, yourself, everybody in America is somehow related to immigrants, even if you was related to some one that first set foot on this land. They had to be an immigrant from somewhere so I say yes let them earn their citizen ship.

Should the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country get a chance at citizenship?? I say yes because these immagrants add to America not just population wise but money wise. They can help manufactures and such. I also feel that it is great for the immigrants to learn our language so if they become a citizen of Our country then they would be able to understand us better, they will be a better communicant. I feel that the immigrants should have to pay a fine so they would know that we mean buissness dont come to our country playing around! But to do that they would have to work and all this is showing how bad they want to earn their citizenship !

Question # 2

I Do not think America should make English their Over all launge. I think it would be kind of hard for everyone to keep up with the changes. Also if you are speaking spainsh it really be hard because you are not you to speaking English and maybe havent even her anyone else speak it.I dont think anyone really has a problem with Hispianics that dont speak English. Hispanics might feel uncofrtable with people Speaking English because they might not understand it.

This blog is answering question one. I think that the 12 million illegal immigrants have the right to get a chance of citizenship by learning English and paying fines. This is because every immigrant can have the right to live where they want. Even though these immigrants are illegal that doesn’t mean that they are forever banned to be a citizen of the U.S. They could live here and work off their debt. All they want to do is find a better and safer place for their families.

I think that America should keep up the wall and work to make it better to keep out illigal immigrants. Illigal imagrants come into our country take our jobs and dont pay taxes. These immigrants work for lower than minimum wage witch makes them more ideal to hire than American workers that work for minimum wage. Many of workers lose there jobs and get put them in povirty. I think that should spend more money in makin the wall more high tech and advanced. We may los some money in the short run but in the long run we lose money everyday to illigal immigrants and everyday more and more come in to america illigally. So, to stop this i propose that we should spend money to make the wall stronger and have more gaurds gard it and have all illigal immigrants in our country file for citizenship.

Yes, the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants should get a chance at citzenship. I think if they are willing to learn english, pay finesm and worf towards citizenship because if they are willing to work for it and act like Americans then they deserve to become citzens. By learning our language and doing everything we else we require means that they are really trying to be apart of our country and they deserve the oppurtunity but i do agree that they should have to do these things though. They shouldnt be let in without having to do a couple of things because we have enough people in America as it is but if they are willing to do what citzens of America do then they should be allowed the chance to be citizens of America.
