Blog #17 - Why do you think women have had such a hard time?

Throughout the course of American history, in the land of the free, where "all men are created equal", women have had such a difficult time achieving and maintaining equality. From the time Abagail Adams reminded her husband, John Adams, to include something about women's rights in the Declaration of Independence to Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign, women have had an uphill road to walk for equality.

Question: Why do you think their (women's) road has been so tough in their fight for equality?

Things to consider: Everyone in America a woman (1/2 the population given the 2000 census) or has been touched by, involved with women in some way or another; with such a close relationship, how can men NOT be influenced to accept women as equals? Is there something built-in to our culture - an anti-woman bias - that keeps women down or degrades them?

Why do you think Hillary Clinton is not succeeding as well as Barack Obama, especially considering that BOTH of them are historical, groundbreaking candidates? Is she losing b/c she's a woman or is she losing b/c of her policies and personality? Lastly, why do groups like Phyllis Schlafly's sabotage women's fight for rights?

The women’s road to equality has been hard, and in my opinion will remain hard. The idea that women are meant to be in a home, and raise a family has been a key factor in our society forever. Men have been perceived as the stronger one in the relationship, the provider, while the woman has been the housekeeper. While I believe that women have come a long way from trying to gain rights to vote, we still have a long way to go. Women are not often heads of large corporations because many in the field are scared that one day they will decide they are done and want to go have kids. Fields like science and engineering are not close to being equal either; many of tech schools have 70-30 boy to girl ratios. I do think that Hilary Clinton is failing because of her politics though; I think she gained a lot of support for being a woman; her policies aren’t what people want. I think that groups like Phyllis Schlafly’s are around because there are certain aspects where girls shouldn’t be equal to guys. For instance if there was ever a need for a draft, would women really want to go to war? Its proven guys are stronger in that field. In time to come I think that women should be politically and academically equal to guys, but physically they can win.

Men and women are most of the time intermingled with each other, in school, the workplace, and many other places, so the question is why do men refuse to accept women as equal beings. This is because men and women are not equal, and I am not being sexist. I’m not saying men are better than women or women are better then men. Men and women’s are two different genders, and each have advantages and disadvantages for their gender. Much like Phyllis Schaftly’s ideas, men because of their body build may be more equipped for the army and very strength dependent jobs, while women might be better receptionists and child care takers. Even though they are different, the absolutely should have the same rights!!!!!! A lot of men do not see women as equal because women may not be as good at men based (not men only) jobs, but the truth is that men have to realize they are not nearly as good at jobs that are done by mostly women. So it is not that they are not equal, but that they are different and have different advantages and disadvantages. I do believe that built in our culture is an anti-woman bias that was strongly established when women had very few rights five, six, seven decades ago. Women being not equal under the law is something that’s been going on for a long time. I believe that although there are people who vote/don’t vote for Obama because he’s African American and there are people who vote/don’t vote for Clinton because she’s a women, most Americans look at policies and personalities and that is why Clinton is losing. As I mentioned before, people like Schaftly try to sabotage the fight for women’s rights because they feel like women are not as well equipped for some things as men.

Throughout history women have only known as house wives. They are suppose to stay home have the kids, raise the kids and then clean up after the kids all by themselves. Men are the ones who go to work to bring home the money and come home to a hot cooked meal. Women weren’t aloud to work or be successful because that’s always been the “mans” job. So when women started fighting to have the right of jobs it was alarming to most. To this day we still don’t have a women president, we haven’t even had a Jewish or black man president. People don’t deal well with change and there will always be raciest, sexiest and stereotype people. Men have always been the ones on top that’s how it is suppose to be. So its not surprising that women have to work twice as hard to be more successful then men. It’s not that the man is smarter or better at his job. It’s the fact that he is a man and she is a woman. It might make your company look bad. It’s quite disgusting that to this day women have to fight so hard to be better than men. You would thing in today’s society people would get over the whole gender issue and except the fact that women can be stronger and smarter than men.

The question is why do you think that women’s road to equality has been tough? I believe that there are still some disadvantages that women must conquer, but that for the most part men and women are equal. Both are better and worse at some things then the other. Men are typically stronger and so are more efficient in jobs that require being physically strong, but not to say that women cannot be strong, but predominantly men have stronger muscles. Women are the ones who have children and are naturally better nurturers, although men raise children as well. The point i'm getting at is that Men and Women should be able to do more then what they are known for. Women should be able to get jobs, although I think during the child’s baby and toddler years that the mother take nurturing their children over work if possible. Men should help out with household work and also take a big part in nurturing the child as well. But they are better at certain things then each other. I think that Women feel they are not being treated equal because of the predominant women lifestyle, but now many women have been becoming involved in careers, and I believe to conquer the inequalities that still stand is to fight the media. The media makes women out to be objects, which portrays women as less equal.

I believe women have come a long way in society. The history of women have been oppressed by men, and showed what women couldn’t do, instead of the bountiful things a women could do. Now in the present there are still people who feel that women don’t belong in the workplace, but women can the same things a man can. But there are still exceptions. If a certain job calls for strength such as the military, I believe a man is much more fit for the job. But, women could still make it into the military. But women are still discriminated against. The wage gap is widest for women of color, dipping below 50 cents to each dollar that white men earn in the U.S. today. I believe employers hire women because they historically have been able to pay them less and get away with it. I believe we take women for granted, and mistreat them. Women are 42 percent of all union members and 46 percent of the entire U.S. workforce. We should treat our women equally, and pay them the same. Women can do the same things that men could do, maybe even better. Once we realize that women can enhance us as a whole , we will be begging for more women to work.

i think that women will always have a hard time trying to be equal to men. women are looked at ss housekeepers and caregivers. most women that do work outside the home have a hard time gaining the position they are made for because they are women and because the person who is hiring might be afaird to give them position if they change their ming and decide to ahve kids and become a stay at home mom. i think that Hilary cliton is losing for since she is a women and because of her poltics. i dont believe in what she says in her speeches about ending the war and how to handle Iraq afterwards. i also believe that because she is a women people are not taking her as serious as they do to the male candidates, and maye most people believe that the president should be a male.

I think the women’s road has been so tough in their fight for equality because women have always been degraded by men. It is hard for the women to fight for their equality when they have always been seen as the person to do all the work in the household. To add to the fact that it is hard, it doesn’t help women are women and aren’t as strong as guys and all kinds of things like that. We live with women, go to school with women, work with women, love women, so why does this make us not let them be equal to us. I feel that many men think if they treat women equal to the way they treat other men that they feel they are losing power and they are scared of that. That makes me think why do men feel that they have to have power over women, is it because things have just always been that way or what? Now on to a more political note, I think Hillary Clinton is somewhat losing the presidential race because she is a women and some men don’t want a women in charge of the country, but that’s not the only reason she is losing, it is also because of her politics and personality. Groups like Phyllis Schlafley’s try to sabotage women’s fight for rights because some things that would be equal like a draft for the war would be outrageous for women. A lot of women would not want that, so therefore some women do the talk but can’t do the walk, which is why there are groups to sabotage the rights for equality.

I think that the road for women to gain equality in the world is hard because men felt they were superior to women. This mentality appeared in the 50’s with the way women acted because that’s how the men liked it. Such acts were being helpless, staying at home and acting dumb. The road stayed this way because men. This road will stay hard because of the mentality that women are stay at home wives that need to take care of the kids. With a stereotype like that still in the mind of most people it would be hard for the women to reach a change they want because most people don’t like change and fear what they don’t know or understand. Even though a lot has changed since the old days women still don’t have the equality they deserve. For instance men are worth more money in jobs that require strength. Also women aren’t heads of major corporations unlike men. The same goes for political offices. But since the earlier days the road has gotten better then what it used to be in this last century. Overall the road has been hard for women and I feel it’s still going to be harder.

I think that the role of women has come a long way in society, but they still have a ways to go to become equal to men. Women have been the one who is expected to stay home and take care of the kids and clean the house, while men go off to work. Women are rarely business owners or heads of large companies because other workers in the business get scared the they might run off and have kids. But the role of women changed during world war one, when women had to take the men’s jobs. Women had to go off and work in the factories and businesses. People had a hard time with this because it changed things, and people don’t deal with change very well. This is one of the reasons why America hasn’t had a women president or even a black or Jewish man president. It’s not men are better than women at their job it’s just that men are perceived to be the stronger and more capable to work in a factory and or company. As women are the one to stay at home and tend to the family. That is why I think women have had such a hard time trying to become equal in society.

I think that women and men are equal. But they have had such a hard time because they don’t have those groundbreaking, morally sound leaders to help them. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. led the fight against discrimination to African Americans, Abraham Lincoln led the fight to make the union one again and George Washington helped America to become a separate and independent country from Britain. But women didn’t and really haven't found a leader yet. They haven’t found someone to help them in the fight for equality. I mean, Hillary is okay, but not really a groundbreaking leader to help all women in the country. And she is probably losing the presidential race because of her personalities and policies. Not because she is a woman. And groups like Phyllis Schlafly's only fight because they don’t want the change. They believe this change might disrupt their way of life that they have become so fond of. And so to stop this change they convince the states not to ratify the ERA. Overall I do except women as equals and I value their opinion. But society might degrade them because they might see them only for their nurturing side and not for their strong opinions. And because society might only see women for that side of the women, then they might not care or value their opinions.

The women’s road to equality has been so tough for many reasons. The women are considered the house wives, they take care of the family, cook and clean. The men are considered to be the people out in the work place, they have jobs and take care making the families income. The men are also considered to be physically and mentally stronger. The equality for women has gone a long way, but in today’s society women are still struggling for equality. If a woman and a man were paid for doing the exact same job, the man would be paid a higher wage then the women. Hillary Clinton will probably lose the election against Barrack Obama because she is a woman. Most men will vote for Obama because he is a male, and most males don’t think women can run the country better then the males can. People today are a costumed to having males become president. If Hillary Clinton does win I think it would be a huge step in the fight for equality for women. Phyllis Schlafly sabotage women's fight for rights because she thought men were better in the work place, stronger etc. Phyllis was also very happy with her life, she a great husband, children and I think she was afraid for that to change.

In my opinion, I think that women have had a long road to gain some equality with men. I do still believe that the road for women’s full equality with men will never be accomplished. In an ideal world, women are portrayed as the house takers, soccer moms, cleaning service whereas men are the moneymakers, businessmen, and are the providers of the household. I believe that most men don’t accept women because women can take over men’s positions in being the moneymaker’s etc. when there is pretty much no chance that an most men could do half the things the women do in a typical day. I think there is a fear in every man that keeps degrading women for how they are. I believe that Hillary Clinton is not succeeding because of both reasons. I would think that it frightens most men to have a women lead their country and deal with how there businesses are going to make money, etc. However, I do believe that it is also because of her politics and personality (with the including of her husbands past history) The bad thing about people who are Democrats is that they have to decide if they want a women or a African American man to run as the Democratic position for presidency, they don’t have a typical white male nominee for the presidency and I think its creating an outstandingly large scare to most democratic voters.

I think that women’s road has been so tough in their fight for equality for a couple of reasons. First off throughout time men have been considered more dominant than women have been in being stronger and bigger than them. Women are seen as being more loving and caring and more gentle then men are which fitted them better for taking care of children and tending to the house. I suppose that women struggled so much to gain equality because many people didn’t want change in society and thought that men should work and women should stay at home. I think that the women were split from housewives and the feminists. Women like Phyllis Schlafly sabotaged women’s fight for equality. I believe that many women were happy with the way things were and didn’t want to see change. I think that Hilary Clinton hasn’t been succeeding Barack Obama because she is a women and also because of her policies. I think that maybe some Americans would rather see a man as the president rather than a woman, but also many people look at the candidate’s policies and personalities. I think that from the start of time women have been portrayed as less dominate than men.

I think the women’s road to equality has been such a hard one because throughout time it has been instilled in everyone’s mind that men are superior and they are the only ones who need an education, the only ones cut out for work, and that women are there to take care of the house and the children. People have gotten so used to seeing women in this inferior way which makes it hard to change their roles in the world today, and also people are quicker to judge and much more critical when it comes to them and their expectations of the women. I think when it comes to Hillary Clinton a lot of why she’s loosing has to do with the fact that she’s a women but also her personality. She is breaking ground running for president as a woman, and people are much more judgmental of her, if she says something wrong it is much more blown up, and I think a lot of people would blame it on the fact that she is a woman. She has a lot of pressure to not only stand up for women but change what our country’s known for so long, a white male president.

I think that womens rights have been oppressed for so long because it has been traditional for men to be the main provider for his family. With the main income of the household coming from the man, without the woman's husband, her income would be drastically lower and wouldn't be able to live the lifestyle of a normal family. i believe that womens fight for equal rights has been so hard because of this traditional idea that has been going on for many generations and its been pretty recently that more and more females are socially accepted as being a single or working woman. the fact that Hillary Clinton has gotten to run for president is a large milestone for womens rights and i believe that this is only the beginning of an American movement.

I personally think that the women’s road has been very tough but at the same time a very successful one. I believe I was such a tough road due to the differences in men and women. For example, Physical ability. Men are usually stronger then women, providing men more jobs that have to do with hard labor and strength. Another reason would be that in the past its always been social acceptable for the men to go out and work and for the wife to tend the house and the children. Over time this has change and now more and more women are becoming more independent and working. Some people don’t support this. Another reason why the road has been so tough in there fight for equality. Many people worry; what will the men do? Are they supposed to become the “stay at home dad” or are they supposed to work as well. it’s a very confusing situation. Some people won’t accept this change and believe that a family is the most effective for living if the man goes out and the women stays home. This brings up the tough question; Is this equality? Well some women believe that this isn’t equal and that the women should have just as much opportunity as the men do. There is many conflicts when dealing with the equality of women and what is equal and not equal and that’s why the road has been so tough for women’s equality.

The women’s road to equality has been a tough fight. There are many reasons for this. Throughout history, and in some cultures today, men have been superior to women. Today the common perception is men are responsible for finding a job and supporting the family while women are supposed to take care of the children. Many women want to pursue a career but they can’t because they are supposed to stay home with their children. Hilary Clinton is pursuing a career and is trying to become the next president of the United States. She is losing to Barack Obama at the moment. Both Barack and Hilary are historically ground-breaking candidates. Barack Obama is an African American candidate. She is losing to him because of their differences in views not because she is a woman. They both are getting plenty of attention because they are different than the average candidate. Their actions are being watched and talked about more than usual candidates. Hilary has had some drama that has hurt her in the polls. Some people think less of her because of some of the things she has said. The times are changing for women and they are getting more opportunities over time.

I think women have had such a hard time throughout history for many reasons. The first reason is because most jobs in the past have been better suited for men. Most jobs were very laborious and required a lot of strength and endurance. Most women were not built for jobs like that. Throughout history it has been the man’s responsibility to provide money and food for his family while women worked the house and cared for the children. Another thing is that males throughout history have shown dominance over females. This usually caused males to come before females in their family, jobs, and decisions. I think that women have had such a hard time with equality because of the male dominance and how males looked at it as their job to provide for their family so women were given less chances. I also think that women have had problems because of male competition and ego. Males wouldn’t want to lose their job to a female and they also think that that males are better in some cases over females. Females also couldn’t really get the good paying jobs either because most of them were backbreaking strenuous work that women aren’t cut out for. These are some of the reasons why I think women have had such a hard time throughout history.

I think women’s road to equality has been so tough because all the way back to ancient times, for the most part, the men held the more prominent jobs. Life is getting better for women, but this is how it has been for many years now. I don’t think that this is going to change anytime soon either. I think that women still have a long hard struggle ahead. Men and women are not the same, but should most definitely have the same rights. I think that Hillary Clinton may be having trouble both because she is a women, and because of her policies. She shouldn’t win because she’s a woman, people need to look at her as if she is anyone else running for president, and because it is not different than if a man was running. Women have come so far, they have educations and careers, and can run for president, but I do not think that the struggle for women is over.

The woman’s road to equality has been a very harsh one, and it will most likely stay just as harsh. In my opinion, the road to equality has been hard because of all the past history they’ve had. A long time ago, women weren’t treated the same as men, but they didn’t care about it nearly as much. It simply became the natural order. After women started to want more, people probably just didn’t want to make a big life change; this could be for many different reasons. Of course, another reason could be plain sexism. Men (or women) could simply think they are better than the other. I feel Hillary Clinton is loosing from being a woman. People are afraid of change. They think that if this woman gets a hold of to much power, she could change our way of life. Those people might be just as reluctant to want Obama, but he is still a man, he might not change their working order. I don’t care who wins so long as they don’t screw up like ,well, you know. I feel that people like Phyllis Schlafly try to sabotage because they are also afraid of change. Those people have had the same role for many years. They don’t want to have their life change, since that’s been their life for hundreds of years. This long road to equality is challenging, but it probably can be done.

I think women have had such a rough time in their fight for equality because like African Americans and any other religion they have to earn it. In today’s date basically everyone has equal rights though women are still sometimes put down, they do try their best. It’s the way society is, ruled by men. We were brought up by male presidents and the rules that follow, such as the voting rights that women slowly earned. It won’t ever be equal, its human nature to have superiority.

I think Hillary Clinton isn’t doing too well because of her policies and personality. No black president has gotten as far as Barack proving that Clinton could have done it too, if that’s what the people wanted. I view who I want to win for the presidency by putting up a curtain between them and me, listening to their views, then after drawing back the curtain and then realizing that I could be making history (if I could only vote).

There are stereotypical jobs that the golden women have such as staying home to raise the family. Though there are some women in America which fall under this category, most are trying to pursue their dreams and become successful. Society has changed A LOT since women were first allowed to vote. Us Americans are growing progressively and successfully.

Why can’t men accept women? An interesting question of a very touchy subject. However, when thinking about the question in depth, one can only venture to say that, with history in mind; men really can’t accept us. The three basic types of feminists consist of the nineteenth and early twentieth century’s. The second being the 1960s and 1970s and the third extends from the 1990s to the present. (Courtesy of Wikipedia). The First feminists wanted the simple right to vote, the second set of feminists wanted civil rights, and today, modern feminist want respect for women and the challenge to globally solve problems such as rape, domestic violence, prostitution, and sexual harassment. Since the beginning of time the planet has been controlled and contorted by the dominate male. However bias it is to say that men bring women down, look at the subject from a broader spectrum, who wrote the bible? Men. Who became the leaders of communism in countries such a china, or Russia? Men. Who started the machinery revolution? The men. Though all problems (take global warming for instance) can’t be pin pointed on men, but think about how Bias the world is. In economically trifled countries such as Africa, or the Middle East, women are raped, beaten and harassed on a daily subject. Why? Because they don’t respect us because we are the “weaker” sex. But are weakness is their weakness. Women are the reason for life, the nurture they care, and they protect their young from the big bad world. Women are the back bone to society and have wisdom and knowledge that most men won’t dare to believe. However if that’s not the case or disrespect then men don’t take women seriously for reasons I have yet to understand but if men let women have a chance to shine, and change the world, let us step up to the blat and I guarantee a home run.

I think the main reason women have such a hard time excelling in the world is because most of the women were fine with their role in society, until 1848 when Susan B. Anthony held the first Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York, it called for equal rights and equal opportunities for women, the convention was the begging point of the women’s rights movement. Another reason is because I don't think women are as hardnosed as men so even if they thought it was unjust they did not speak up. The next monumental point in time was in 1920 when the U.S. Constitution adopted the 19th amendment that stated "The right to vote cannot be denied on account of sex".

I think that women have a hard time in history because like all other people they want to be recognized as equals, and others do not see them in that light. Most, but not all, see women as equals in society. But still there are some who only visualize women as those who work in the home, and not as a functioning member of society. I think that women have had their fair share of struggles in the past, and that we as Americans should recognize that they want to be treated equal. Another problem in their struggle is probably that some women don't even want to be considered as "an independent woman", they just want to be stay at home moms/wives. Not to mention that other cultures in the world do not think about women as people that can do a job as efficient as men. If we were to tell someone in Afghanistan about womens struggle for rights, they would probably laugh at us. I beleive that men should give women the respect that they deserve, but I also believe that it is going to take more time in order for womens rights to be completely respected. Women are going to have to keep up the struggle to convince not only America, but foreign countries as well that they deserve equal rights in all aspects.

I do think that the women’s road for quality has been a tough one, and an unfair road. It has been a difficult road because the male ego thinks that males should work because they are the most able and that the females cannot handle many things and should just stay home. Also, the society and culture has plugged this idea in the minds of many that men are supposed to work and “bring home the bacon” and that women were only supposed to care for the family and stay home. That is something that is still with us today, and it is something that has to change. But there has been a big step in the road for equality and that is the running of president by Hilary Clinton. While she is not doing as well as Barack Obama she has done a lot just by running and getting this far in the race. But I think the reason she is not doing as well as Barack Obama is because she is a women and some of her policies/personality. Because I think that many people think that a woman isn’t the right fit for being a president which goes back to how people think of woman and of what they can and can’t do. But there may be some people who just think she may not be the best fit because of her policies or personality. So the road has been a difficult one but women, but things have been changing and things like Hilary Clinton running can make big difference.

The women’s road to equality has been this tough for an infinite amount of reasons, and while I don’t think there is one completely true answer to this question, I do believe that most of these reasons sprout from one source: the media. The media is something that effects our lives everyday whether we realize it or not. (An interesting fact: On average, a person sees about 2000 advertisements a day). Many advertisements we see reflect the stereotypes of society, more specifically, those created to effect women. Today, many companies “sexualize” their products to increase sales. Many of these tactics include showing women with their mouths shut or covered, portraying the idea that women should not be heard. Others include dismemberment of female bodies in advertisements, and the use of stereotypes to sell products. While we may not realize it, these advertisements have a huge effect on how our society acts, and we can see this in the past 100 years, as men have seemingly grown into a false sense of “dominance” over women. The stereotypes that the media portrays are almost instantly reproduced in the social world. I know for a fact that I have seen commercials on TV one day, and then the next day I hear fellow students joking around about it. Sometimes they’re joking about something that is actually something really serious; something like the objectification of women. Everyday I hear jokes, maybe even tiny little references, to the objectification of women, and it sickens me. And why do these kids say these things? Because they see their favorite characters on a TV show doing it. Because they think it's OK to say it since they did not originate it, they heard it on TV. And that is the main factor that has created inequality between men and women; something that must be overcome to break the barrier. Personally, I do not think it is possible to overcome this what we know today as the media. It has become the foundation of the society that we live in, and, unfortunately, at this point, there is no turning back.

I think that the women’s rights struggle has been so difficult for the same reasons as the difficulties in the black rights movement. Half of the people in the U.S. are males and the majority of them are white. So basically they are the largest group. I think this is how they have justified and encouraged their oppressions of the people who aren’t “average”. I think the fact that males fail to fully recognize women as their equals is some macho man symptom that is continuously perpetuated by both men and women.
I think that Hilary is not doing as well simply because of her politics. I think that if Barack Obama was a woman he would still be winning. I think it would be really unfair to blame her losing on her gender because I really feel that that’s not the case here.
I think that women like Phyllis Schlafly sabotage women’s rights movements because they are afraid that they might actually have to develop talents and that they might fail. They are comfortable with their little sheltered lives and are afraid of the big bad real world. I think people like her are really rather pathetic and should keep their insecurities to themselves.

Women have fought for equal rights all throughout history. Why should we have had to fight for the right though? Throughout history women have always been treated less superior to men. I think that women have been perceived as inferior to men because of a few things. The first is that women have the babies. Many men think that women are incapable of doing anything when they are pregnant. Before women took a stand many women were fired when they became pregnant. Although we may not be able to do some physical things while pregnant, we are still able to work. My Aunt is a nurse in the ICU at Genesys Hospital and recently had a baby. She continued working in the ICU almost up to the date that the baby was born. Being pregnant did not affect her performance as a nurse at all. With the recent economic problems throughout the country, it is almost imperative that women have jobs now. Many more people would go into debt and lose there homes. I know that if my mom had not made the decision to get a higher education and get a good job that my family would not be as well off. I think that if women weren’t so mean and catty that we could rule the world. In some ways women control the men. We are so influential, by saying a few simple word’s, we can change a man’s opinion easily. We could cause total havoc if we so desired.

I think the reason women’s road to equality goes back hundreds of years, to a time where women were expected to have and raise the youth while men build, hunt, and provide for the family. This behavior has become a part of culture around the world and is the root to women being suppressed by men. Back then if a woman supported her family, it was viewed as the man was unable to perform his duties so he was put to shame. That is the reason men didn’t want women to work, they wanted to keep their pride. I think Hillary Clinton is losing to Obama partly because she is a woman and there are people who don’t want a woman elected president, but I don’t think that’s the whole reason because there are people who don’t want a black president. Hillary is losing mainly because of her policies. I think that groups that sabotage women’s rights movements because they don’t want things to change. Women have been confined to the household for so long that they believe that that is their place, and women like Phyllis Schlafly’s will fight for what they think is their rightful place in society.

I think women have always had a hard time getting equal rights due to their history. In the past they were always thought of the stay home wife that didn’t go out to work or get an education. They weren’t allowed to vote, or have their own lives. With these limits set back then it became hard for them to gained those equal rights of men that everyone should have. An example of this would be when you’re a little kid and your taught to do something a certain way. When you grow up someone might try to teach you different but its hard to change your ways from the beginning. Hilary Clinton is running for presidency but is falling behind the others in the race. Its partially because of the way she has been running things with firing people late in the race and losing in debates against Obama. The other part could be because people don’t think she is capable of running a nation and others think if she wins then her husband will be in office again and not her. Even though Obama is the first African-American to get this far he has the edge because of his actions. I don’t think it really has much to do with gender or race but mainly how you look and how you plan to run things. When women started fighting for equal rights people like Phyllis Schlafly tried to stop them and keeping the rights separate. She wanted to keep things the same by having women work at home and men to work in the fields.

Throughout history women have been looked down upon as people who should not have jobs, stay home and clean or watch the children. I think that the reason for this probably dates back to the beginning of mankind. Back in the time of the “caveman” men were supposed to hunt and provide for the family because they were stronger. Then later on in history in Rome and Greece the most important jobs were military jobs and again the men were stronger so the women had to watch the children. Then later in history in the 1800’s many people owned farms. The men were stronger so they had to work in the fields starting at a young age and when they got married they had to provide for the family because women didn’t work. Women watched the children. So even though many jobs don’t rely on strength or athleticism anymore it is still a part of our history that the men provide for the family and the women watch the children. It is not however why Hilary Clinton is losing votes in my opinion. Though race and gender do have an effect on the Democratic nomination I believe that the big reason Clinton is losing is because of her personality. Barrack Obama has a great personality, he has a lot of charisma, and the things that he says and the way he acts relate to many more Americans than the personality or lack thereof of Hilary Clinton.

I think that women have had such a hard time with their fight for equality because nobody wanted women being in the same social level as them. When people think of what women should be doing, they think of them as housemaids and people who stay home all day, cleaning and cooking and caring for their children. Men especially did not want women to be working with them because they wanted to feel superior and feel like they were in a higher class then the women. Also, I agree with Ben by him saying that the women have had such a hard time with their fight for equality because they haven’t had someone to help them like the men have had. With almost every major issue that men have, like Martin Luther King Jr.’s fight again African American discrimination, they have had a leader to help them work through it. The only big leaders that the women had for their fight for equality was Phyllis Schlafly and she was fighting AGAINST women having the same rights as men. She wanted the women to stay home where they belong because she thought that men were stronger and more capable for the tougher jobs that were out there. So they main reasons for the women’s problems with their fight for equality was because men didn’t want them working in the same class as them and that they didn’t have and real leaders in their fight for equality.

Ever since Adam and Eve there has been a bias against women. Was it Eve’s fault that she ate the apple? Or was it the snakes? Does it really matter? In a sense these questions are less important than what is in front of us right now, women’s rights. For a long time we have been fighting for men to see women as equals. Why should we have to fight? It is unfair and unjust that some people still see a societal norm of women in the kitchen and men in the office. It’s an uphill battle for women because you cannot stop what people want to think. There is really nothing we can do to change the minds of others as hard as we may try. The only thing women can really do is one-up our competition. We are not always seen as equals in the work place? What will they be saying when a woman is running a major corporation. Some people may become discouraged but just look back at our history and think of the twenties when it was taboo for women to work or even wear a lot of make up. We have come so far in history and now most people don’t have such conservative views.

I think that woman’s road has been so tough in their fight for equality because I think that men see women as not as strong as they are. They have such big ego’s that they think that if a woman is higher in a workplace or brings home the bacon, then they are real men. Men have had women by their sides through out history, and I think that once woman started to prove their selves then men got scared of change and started to fight it. I also think that men try to run things because they think they are better and more able. They think that they have been running things for so long that there is no need for change even thought it may be necessary and even mandatory. Men liked having that perfect life. They would bring home all the money, the woman would stay home, clean the house, take care of the kids and have dinner on the table by the time he got home. To me that sounds like a great life if I were a man. They might have not wanted to give that up and have to start taking responsibility at home.

I think the road has been tough and will remain tough for a long time. I think women have had a hard road because they were not oppressed, but forced to fit a stereotype of being a housewife and raising the family. I think that they got put on the back burner because of the African American Civil Rights movement. They have been oppressed so long that I think it took priority over the women. Women over time have been thought to be really peaceful and conforming. Sometimes the men in our society don’t take them seriously. I think that women should have the same rights that men do, even though we have great differences. Phyllis Schaftly, I think, had the right I idea in that women are more nurturing and caring and men are physically stronger. This means that gender might cause job differences but all of the jobs should be equal and definitely all of the rights should be equal. I think that it will remain hard for women but I think that they have accomplished an important milestone already.

I think that women's road has been so tough in their fight for equality because most men don't want women to have rights. I think that one reason that some men don't want women to have equal rights is because they are afraid that the women are better at things that they are. I think another reason why men don't want women to have equal rights is because they want the women to rely on them all the time so that they will have confidence in them to do certain things. If the women does better than the men in some of the activties then the men would think that they wouldn't need them and that they would go off and do the men things on their own. I think women should have rights is because they need the rights to get through the world. If women didn't have rights, then they would not have the same respect as men do. Also if the women didn't have any rights, then they would be like African Americans back during segregation. Overall, I think that women should have equal rights with men because are also Americans and should have be able to do what men can do.

Through all time, women have had an exceedingly hard time becoming successful and recognized in a world dominated by men. They have had to work extra hard to achieve great things, but it has definitely worked for them. For a while women were thought of as the weaker of the sexes, and some of that is still believed today. However, women have come a long way in such important matters like politics. There are more and more single mothers out there who raise their kids and are career women. This shows that women can handle most things that men can. Even though women still don’t earn as much men when they are doing the same jobs, it is still a huge step from 50 years ago when working outside the home was unheard of for a married woman. Hillary Clinton is an example of a woman who has come a long way in her political career. As a woman, she has faced many trials and tribulations along her journey, but she persists. I respect her for trying as hard as she is for the presidency, but I don’t believe that she is losing for only one reason. Being a woman is probably part of the reason why she is not doing as well as the male candidates in the polls, but the major part is because most people don’t think she is a good candidate to run the country. Her political views are unsatisfactory for many Americans, and this contributes to her weakening supporters.

Why do you think women's road has been so tough in their fight for equality? I think women’s road has been tough in the fight for equality because women have always been known as the housewife. Taking care of the kids, cleaning the house, cooking meals, etc. The man was always known to be the person in the family to work. A man’s job was to provide for his family. This was mainly because they were stronger then women and women were seen as they couldn’t do a “man’s” job. Now a days if a woman wants to work she can, but its still not equal, even today. Men get hired more then women and they often get paid more. Women still have to keep working at it to get at the same level as men. In the election, Hilary Clinton hasn’t won over a lot of people, not because she’s a woman, but because of her views on politics, etc. So there are other reasons to why women sometimes get less. But the U.S. has always had a man as president and maybe we just don’t want to change that. I think the media also has apart in this, women are always seen to be stupid or dependent on someone else, as seen in the past, and the men are providing for them. This makes women less equal to men. In end, women have gone a long way to get where they are today.

Why do you think their (women's) road has been so tough in their fight for equality? “All men are created equal” this is fair to an extent. It means all races of men are equal but what about women? It was a difficult task to achieve woman’s equality but now that everyone is equal it is easier to maintain it. One of the early stereotypes of women was that they are the typical housewife. They stay around the house cooking, cleaning and taking care of kids. This is not true now. Some households go by that rule but not many. Now women are more independent than they used to be. They have jobs and they bring in money not just the man in the house. I think the woman have had to put up a fight for their rights to get rid of the stereotype and reach equality with men because they want everyone including themselves to be treated equally. I do not think Hillary Clinton is losing because she is a woman. I think she is losing because of her politics and personality. Also there is the possibility her ideas will be like those of former president, Bill Clinton. People may not agree with these ideas.

The fact that Hilary is not succeeding has very little to do with the fact that she is a woman. What is more discouraging to voters is her abrasive personality and policies. You don’t see Barack Obama losing votes because he’s black, it’s all about their views and personality. One of the main reasons I believe Clinton is losing the election is her stance on health care and education. Both are rooted firmly in Socialism. After the Cold War America started strongly pushing the Capitalist agenda. Hilary wants to change this and it scares many Americans. After so many years of being taught that Socialism doesn’t work it’s hard for Americans change their ideology.
Another reason I believe Clinton is behind Obama is her personality. She is very harsh on many subjects and even harsher on her competing Democrat. Many undecided voters may sympathize with Obama if they see Hilary constantly attacking him.
The problem may not even be with Hilary. Her competitor is such a gifted speaker and has so many strong supporters that it’s hard to put up a decent fight. So many people are donating to the Obama campaign that it makes promoting his campaign even easier.
In conclusion I don’t really think race or gender has that much to do with the outcome of the election.

Why Women had a hard time fighting for equal right?

Women until recent years have always been fighting for equal rights. Throughout history a women’s role was to get married at a young age, raise the family, and to provide a good home for her husband. Women’s education was not felt to be important, their wishes or beliefs had no role in society. It was many years of fighting before a woman could even vote. Men felt that their role was to protect the woman, bring home food, and supply a comfortable home. Women were felt to be too weak to fight and not smart enough to send them to college.
It took years for women to gain their rights in society. After forming women’s groups and obtaining higher education, they were still paid less than men, and could not get better jobs. Today is different, we now have a woman running for president, and leaders in business and congress are women. Women can now learn the same or more than a man.

Why do you think their road has been so tough in their fight for equality? I think that it has been very hard for women and their fight for equality for many reasons. The main reason is that women have been viewed upon for generations as housewives who take care of the house and the family. The husbands have been the ones who have gone out and gotten the job to pay for the family while the women stayed home and took care of the house. When women wanted to start working out of the household in high paying jobs, a lot of men didn't like this. Many men didn't like this because women have always just worked at home, not in high paying jobs. So when women wanted to get high paying jobs it was a new change to society that men didn't like because they weren't familiar with it. Another reason why it was hard for women on their road to equality was because there were conservative women who didn’t want women to be equal with men to due ancient customs that men were the powerhouses and women lived in a man’s world taking care of him. Another reason why it was hard for women was because men didn’t want to lose their power over women. They want to feel like they were in charge or having to respect women.

Women's rights you know there is allot for me to say about how women have such a hard time with jobs or almost anything that they even do in life. But it is possible to understand that maybe somethings are meant to be for men but me saying would not really make me prove some type of a point. Let us go back to the past if you think about it equality for everyone is not just a standard for bussniess but even for even for every day life, but bieng invlolves as such for a congress woman, i would have to agree with justin because yes when women started to take a stand and wented to prove that not only men can keep a job and get paid becuase how much education that they ha dto face before they even got their.
Senater Hilary Clinton now this is a women who has been proving a point that a woman can run a country so in my conclusion look where wemon came from back then and look how we changed life now.....

My thoughts on women are that they have never been considered equal to men and they might never be. I feel the reason is because men were originally thought to be stronger, better in office, and have better personalities. However, I don’t think women were given the chance to prove that wrong. Also, women have had a rough time in the past because a lot was/is expected of them. Women often have most of the responsibility and without women practically nothing would get done. I’m not saying that men are completely useless, but they shouldn’t think women are obligated to do so much such as taking care of the children they bear, cleaning, and cooking. When you think about it, women are relied on by men to get certain things done and it isn’t “lady-like” for a woman to disagree with a man because they are supposed to be smarter and it looks rude or disrespectful. They are many stereotypes like women being weak and stupid or men having more brain cells. I think there should never be a comparison between genders. Actually, it only makes women more determined to unite and act against men just to prove they are good enough. As far as politics, obviously women have struggled since many men think they know how to make important decisions better, but women, like Hillary Clinton, want to take a stand and it can be liberating for them. It seems too easy for men to degrade women and they have always been the target. Men have been known in the past to make the money and women would apparently be helpless without men, however, I don’t feel that way at all. Maybe men don’t want to believe it, but women are helping the world and the economy just as much as they are. Women have definitely had a rough time in the past dealing with men feeling superior to them, but I have a feeling that will change in the future.

The entire fight for women's rights was because of a universal bias that women are the weaker sex. That bias has been taught in almost all cultures and is still strongly presented today. With the prejudice so deep in our roots, it's been really hard for society to get used to the idea of looking at the "inferior" sex as equals. Hilary Clinton is losing the race for democratic candidate for many reasons. The fact that she's a woman is really a huge factor. The general idea of a strong, determined woman to most people is a "ball stomping bitch". Another big factor, however, is that she has bad personality, woman or man. Another factor is that Obama does have a better personality and more likable to general people. The people who are like Phyllis Schlafly are the main thing keeping the bias of women prevalent in our society today. The reason these people really want to stop women from having equal rights and status in society is because they truly believe that a housewife is the only role women can do. There's no way to get those roots entirely out, but so far things have only been getting better for women's rights as time goes on.

I believe women have a hard time because they are relied on so many things. Especially mother's. It's like back in the caveman era women do all the work at home while men go out and hunt for some. And also back then women didn't have that many rights. They were not allowed to vote and such other things. I also believe that a women image is alot worse today than it was back then. Now so many women(girls)dress up slutish and that makes them disrespected by alot of people. That's why I believe one of the many reason that Hilary Clinton is running for president so that she can show that not only men can run the country.

I believe women will always try to be equal to men. People keep the image of the woman as a housekeeper who stays home with the kids. Many men always perceived themselves as the stronger one in the relationship and refuse to accept women equally. In fact, I think women are as strong as men in most situations, not always but I think it just depends on the personality and character of the person. Unfortunately women have always been degraded by men throughout history. Women are rarely taken seriously and want this to change, but people have a hard time accepting the change. There is always the idea of men being sexist, I believe it is wrong. I guess men kept the idea of protecting their wives thinking something can be too hard for them to do. Basically there are two sides in this situation, people considering the ability of someone to do something and the idea of the woman that cannot do anything just stays home. Hillary Clinton can have difficulties in becoming president because there are still people who consider her inadequate because she is a woman. Actually I think Hillary Clinton can get more support from the women because people want some change in society.

The fight for womans rights was because woman were the weaker race. They had a rough time in the past because women were exspected to do alot. They had many responsibilities such as children, cleaning and cooking. Men think woman are'nt made to do the jobs that men do. I think once women started to prove that they are just as good, and they can do the jobs that men do, men started to fight back so they wont lose there man hood.

I think Hillary Clinton might have trouble winning because she is the only woman candidate, and the way she wants to run is because of her policies. I think America would rather want a man to run this country because men have been portrayed as the most dominate in the past and to have a woman as president I dont think men would be willing to have a woman leading them. But her problem might not be because she is a woman maybe because her competitor is such a good speaker and has so many strong supporters. IT is hard to compete with that.

I think that women have had such a hard time gaining rights in the past because since the very beginning of our country women did not have as many rights as men. They were viewed as weaker and lesser by the men of the country so they were left out of being equal and having rights in our nation’s laws. And once you are not included in the nations laws as having equal rights, it takes a lot of hard work and time to convince people that you are equal and do deserve the same as the men of the country. People don’t like a lot of change so it takes a lot to change all the laws and guidelines of a society and reverse them from what they have been for a really long time. I really don’t think that there is a bias toward all women that men have, I’m sure there are men out there with biases towards women but the majority of the population doesn’t have a bias. I think that Hillary Clinton is not doing as successful as Barack partly because of her politics but also because I think there are people, men and women alike, that question how well she will be able to run a country.

Women got a hard time because a lot of modern folks believe that they should be at home and stay with da kids till da pops get home. We are in America so our rights have gotten our women better jobs and more better jobs, so some women believe that they can work and make money for their house hold also. Women get a lot of heat by going into a job that are ‘I should say’ “made for a man” like being a police officer or firefighter but they succeed and make money. Also, alot of women are single nowa days so it should’nt even still be a problem for America. Since women had their rights it’s been a lot of progress
and by the way technology is expanding I believe men or women will no longer be working. I believe there will be robots that will be programmed for everything in the near future. Then the whole woman’s rights will not succeed to exist for a good 200 years. With Hilary Clinton runnin for president havin the whole America waiting until the election would change the way other countries see us. Also, inside of our own country folk still believe that we should’nt have a female president yet. Me personality I don’t want a female president. If Hilary Clinton wins the election. AMERICA WILL HAVE COOTIES.

Women have come a long way in terms of gaining equal rights as men, but in my opinion, we still have a ways to go. For hundreds of years, women have been primarily seen as the housewife, the mother, and the nurturer. Men were seen as stronger, better able to protect the family, and better able to bring money home. Up until the 1900’s, this was the way things were done, and not many people questioned it. This is why women’s fight for equal rights has been so hard to win, because of how long society viewed the roles of women and men. This is why people like Phyllis Schlafy have tried to sabotage women’s rights. They think that the roles of women and men should not change, because they have been like this for so long. On the other hand, there are many ways that women have been gaining equality. For example, the presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is the first woman to make it this far in the presidential elections. However, there are parts of America that don’t think that women should become president, which may be why Clinton is losing against Obama. Whatever the reason may be, Clinton’s chance at the presidency can be seen as a step for equality for women, how far we’ve come, and how far we need to go.

Yes its true, women have almost always had a hard time getting the same rights as the men. Its seems it ALWAYS been this way and it seems its just too hard to break the “tradition” of this sexism. It seems men have always been the dominant gender of the two. The man is the one who usually went out to work while the woman stayed home and watched over the family and the house. Men were usually the ones who would go out to fight for their families and country; while again, the women would stay back and look after the home. And finally after thousands and thousands of years, women finally fight for their rights, im surprised they didn’t fight for respect a lot sooner. It is just too hard to break old and bad habits along with tradition in order to help and give respect to others. It also is that way because the people who change the laws and family standards are all, hard to believe,.. MEN! Its almost the same thing as asking a king to vote himself out of office, it just seems not probable and too hard to change. Those are reasons why women have such a hard time to fight for their rights.

I think that women has had a hard time in politics or getting equality because men and some women feel as if they are not equal to them. Men feel as if women should cook and clean and do things in their “nature”. Men feel as if they are supposed to do these things. But that’s not always true. They feel as if women can’t handle stressful situations or they aren’t as tough or wise as men. This is not so. Women can be just as or more dominant than a male can. It’s not about if you’re male or female it’s about getting the job done. Because most of the times women do it better than a man can.

I think that the road for women to gain equality in the world is hard because men will always think they are superior to women. Women have been the one who is expected to stay home and take care of the kids and clean the house, while men go off to work. This is why I think America is so far ahead of many other countries, we are the best at adapting to change, women are starting to stand out in society a lot more than they used to whether people like it or not. Also, the men are also considered to be physically and mentally stronger, women don’t really have the upper hand when it comes to more physical jobs, like in factories, and plants. Hillary is breaking ground running for president as a woman. Americans are much more judgmental of her, because if she says something that some people don’t agree with, she would be humiliated more by those people. People will also exaggerate more over her faults because she is a woman. Hillary has a lot of pressure on her because she has a chance to do what no woman has done before, become the president.

I think women have had a tough time because everyone was so used to where they were: in the house. It was a common belief that women should stay in the house to take care of family matters because that’s how the female is, she’s nurturing. But that doesn’t meant hat she can’t be smart too. But, I’m sure that it was the belief that if the woman goes out and gets a job, or goes to school, then that means that she doesn’t want to take care of home anymore which is a thought that I’m sure frightened most men. But that also wasn’t the case, except that women were never actually given the chance to explain that. As far as Hilary Clinton goes, I don’t think that she’s losing because she’s a woman. I think she’s losing because many people either don’t think she’s qualified, or don’t like her personality. I’ve heard women say that they weren’t voting for her. Not because she’s a woman, but because as far as they were concerned, Hilary had not proven to be one that could handle the presidency. She hadn’t proven herself to be one that knew what she was doing, and not just piggybacking off of her husband.

The women’s road to equality has been hard, and in my opinion will remain hard. The idea that women are meant to be in a home, and raise the family of the American dream has been a key factor in our society forever. Men have been perceived as the stronger one in the relationship, the provider, the money maker. While the woman is told she’s meant to be at home, cooking and cleaning. Well I believe that women have come a long way from trying to gain rights to vote, and I’m sure will still have some battles so we still have a long way to go. Women are not often in charge of large corporations, because many of those people in the field are scared that one day they will decide they are done and want to leave there jobs because a women is in charge. So in my opionon if you can not handle the fact that women is higher then you. Good luck trying to find a women with out a job and women who will give up her ability and knowledge so she can go have you kids and cook and clean your house for you. Fields like science and engineering are not close to being equal either; many of tech schools have 70-30 boy to girl ratios. I do think that Hilary Clinton is failing because a guy( who has the thought in his hand of the American women 30 or 20 years ago) wouldn’t want a girl to run the nation. I think she gained a lot of support for being a woman. I think that there are some aspects where girls shouldn’t be equal to guys. For instance if there was ever a need for a draft, would women really want to go to war? Yet some women go into war but if it was like a straight up draft. I don’t think so. Its proven guys are stronger in that field. In time to come I think that women should be politically and academically equal to guys, but physically they can win :]. And you know it Mr. Wickersham.

I think women has had a tough fight for being equal because women have always been degraded by men. It is hard for the women to fight for being equal when they have always been seen as the house wife to do all the work in the house. it is hard, it doesn’t help women are women and aren’t as strong as guys and all kinds of things like that. not tryibg to b sexist. We live with women, we go to school with them, we work with women, and we love women so why does this make women not be equal to us. I feel that many men think if they treat women equal to the way they treat other men that they feel they are losing power and they might b scared of that. thats y i think that men are sometimes sexist because they have to have power over women. thati think that Hillary Clinton is somewhat losing the presidential race because she is a women and some men don’t want a women in charge of the country. i think that is some of the reason.

I think women’s road had been tough in their fight for equality because men still think they should be the “stay-at- home” type that just clean the house, do all the cooking, and take care of the kids. I also think that music now plays a big part of women’s fight for equality because the songs now are degrading toward women and makes them sound like they are stupid, and just want to have sex. I think Hillary Clinton is not succeeding as well as Barack Obama in the campaigns because she is a woman and because of her politics. I do not think that some people are ready for the first woman president, or for another Clinton to be president. Most people either like her or hate her. I think her politics have something to do with how she is doing in the election as well. Personally, I think that Obama is a better choice, but most of that is just because I do not like her politics and how, when Bill Clinton was president, she acted as if she was president. Groups like Phyllis Schlafly’s sabotage women’s fight for rights because they are opposed to feminism and believe a women’s place is at home. They do not want the government to take away all of their rights.
