As seen in this image, communism would then turn to Vietnam followed by Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, etc. Now, my question is:If communism spread to the other countries, how do you think the United States would handle the situation?
If communism spread to the other countries, do you think these countries would still be communist today?

No one can tell what would have happened if Vietnam would have fallen to the communists but i think the situation you described in your post could have possibly happened. i think that it was a goal of russia and china to turn their neighboring countries to communism as well, with or without communist government in vietnam. but i think one thing is for sure: if vietnam would have fallen to communists china and russia would have had a powerful ally in asia to spread communism to other asian countries. it would definitively become harder to handle the foreign policy of containment. most likely if communism would have succeeded in asia the attention of russia and china as the most powerful communist countries would have shifted to Europe or Asia what would have increased the already existing tensions and WWIII could have been one of the results. In this case no one could have said what would have happened. maybe the war would have turned into a nuclear one and that would have been the end of everything we knew or the super nations would have reasoned and found a compromise. no one can say what would have happened but in either case the world we know today would look different. - Martin S.

I think if this Earth-shaking event had occurred, the only way the U.S. would be able to respond is by waging a World War Three against communism. It would surprise me if something other than this happened because each group wants nations to follow their rule of law and cultural habits. The world would be so different if this occurred because we might not be living in the most powerful country in the world or have as many rights as we do today. Because of the magnitude of WW3, the nations involved would have been so desperate I would assume that it would be a nuclear war. If this war occurred I believe that those countries would have had a chance of defeating the U.S. and not only would we live in a communist country we would live in a communist world.
